The Thighs Have It: Thigh Lift Techniques
By Peter Fisher, MD on August 18, 2015
As all too many women and men agree, the thighs are like magnets for fat cells and cellulite. The thighs are a problem area for millions of people, regardless of their weight and how often they exercise. In fact, many people who work hard to lose weight feel as though they are punished for their efforts by loose, sagging skin that remains on their thighs. When it comes to toning the thighs, it’s a game that’s nearly impossible for a great percentage of the population to win.
Fortunately, modern plastic surgery offers a number of excellent solutions to accumulations of excess fat and skin on the thighs in the form of a body contouring procedure called thigh lift. Board-certified plastic surgeon Peter Fisher is able to give his patients the trim, proportional figures they desire through a variety of thigh lift techniques at his San Antonio practice. Whether you are looking to refine your upper legs so that you can look as healthy and fit as you feel, or you want to improve your body’s contours after massive weight loss has left you with hanging skin on your thighs, Dr. Fisher can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Techniques for Performing Thigh Lift Surgery
The goal of thigh lift surgery, whichever technique is used, is to reshape and improve the contour of the thighs and bring them into improved proportion with the rest of the body. This can be accomplished through one of several techniques, including:
- Liposuction: For patients who have isolated deposits of fat in the thigh region, but who otherwise are not experiencing any sagging of the thigh skin, liposuction alone may be a sufficient solution. Even if liposuction is not a suitable treatment on its own, it is often used in conjunction with other thigh lift techniques to produce the best possible results.
- Inner thigh lift: If fat and excess skin have accumulated on the inner upper legs, they can be removed through an inner thigh lift. Dr. Fisher makes strategic incisions on the inner legs, through which fat is removed. He then trims excess skin and pulls the remaining skin taut. The result is a smoother, trimmer inner thigh area.
- Bilateral thigh lift: This technique tightens the skin on the outer sides and front surfaces of the upper legs, as well as the buttocks. This technique is particularly useful for people who have lost massive amounts of weight either through traditional diet and exercise or through bariatric surgery.
- Medial thigh lift: For patients whose inner thighs rub painfully together when they walk, the medial thigh lift may be ideal. This technique addresses the upper part of the thighs nearest the groin area, from which fat and excess skin are removed.
