Get a Tighter Abdomen with a Mini Tummy Tuck

By Peter Fisher, MD on March 16, 2016

Woman with a slim, toned abdomenIf asked to single out one problem area on the body, many people would mention the stomach. Despite diet and exercise, most people are unable to achieve the tight, toned stomach that they desire. When loose, flabby skin is a problem, exercise simply will not help. Fortunately, a tummy tuck can be performed to permanently eliminate unwanted skin around the abdomen, and repair loose stomach muscles to provide the trim and slender midsection patients desire. However, not all patients need the drastic alterations that a traditional tummy tuck provides. For problems that are localized to the lower stomach, a mini tummy tuck may be a more appropriate alternative. Dr. Peter Fisher offers the mini tummy tuck technique to San Antonio, TX patients who are ideal candidates for this procedure.

Mini Tummy Tuck Candidates

A mini tummy tuck, also known as a mini abdominoplasty, is not as common as a traditional tummy tuck. The mini tummy tuck is ideal for patients whose cosmetic concerns are limited to the lower stomach. Patients who are good candidates for the mini tummy tuck are those with loose skin in the area between the belly button and the pubic area. This area may not be as flat as patients would like due to weakened or stretched stomach muscles. Although anyone can suffer from these cosmetic imperfections, women who have been pregnant are some of the most common candidates for a mini tummy tuck.

The Procedure

A mini tummy tuck differs from a traditional tummy tuck in that it requires a much smaller incision. The incision used for a mini tummy tuck is actually very similar to that used for a C-section. Dr. Fisher will make a short incision that sits just above the pubic area. He will use this incision to remove any excess skin, as well as to access the stomach muscles. The abdominal muscles will be tightened and repaired, and liposuction may be performed before re-draping the skin and closing the incision. Unlike with a traditional tummy tuck, the mini tummy tuck does not involve the removal and repositioning of the belly button.

Mini Tummy Tuck Results

A mini tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure and will not alter the overall shape of the body. However, for patients who are in good shape, the mini tummy tuck can provid just the results they need to further enhance their natural beauty. After recovering from a mini tummy tuck, patients can say good-bye to that unwanted pooch of fat and skin that sits in the lower belly, and finally enjoy a tighter and toned abdomen.
