Look Lively: Lower Eyelid Surgery for Undereye Circles
By Peter Fisher, MD on May 17, 2016
For many people, the skin under the eyes is among the first areas of the body that shows the tell-tale signs of aging. In some cases, fine lines and wrinkles can even begin to develop prematurely, as early as when a person is in his or her early- to mid-twenties. While fine lines and wrinkles can often be concealed by make-up or glasses, it is much more difficult to conceal dark undereye circles. Thankfully, facial surgery offers a potentially ideal, minimally invasive solution to undereye circles in the form of lower eyelid surgery.
Through lower eyelid surgery for undereye circles, available at the San Antonio, TX plastic surgery practice of Dr. Peter Fisher, it is possible to restore a youthful, vibrant appearance to the skin under the eyes. Dr. Fisher uses the most advanced techniques available to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of undereye circles, leaving patients looking more alert and refreshed - still very much like themselves, but a well-rested version of themselves, as though they had just returned from the most relaxing vacation of their lives. Another benefit of lower eyelid surgery, clinically known as lower blepharoplasty, is that it is one of a handful of plastic surgery procedures that produce no visible scars. Therefore, the typically natural-looking results that patients can expect from Dr. Fisher are accompanied by none of the signs that they could have undergone plastic surgery.

About Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery is a relatively simple, straightforward procedure. Dr. Fisher begins by making tiny incisions in the natural folds of the lower eyelids so that any scarring will blend inconspicuously into these folds. Through these incisions, he removes excess deposits of fat. He then sculptures the remaining fat so that it is more evenly distributed in the area under the eye, restoring volume to hollow areas and smoothing out bulges where fat had accumulated. After he has achieved the most aesthetically desirable results possible, he sutures the incisions closed, and the procedure is complete.
Patients are able to return home on the day of the surgery. Post-surgical recovery is generally quick with minimal discomfort as long as patients follow Dr. Fisher’s post-operative instructions to the letter. Any discomfort that is experienced can usually be controlled through over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers. Some swelling and bruising can be expected, with full results revealing themselves after about two weeks.
Many patients undergo lower eyelid surgery on its own, while others combine it with facial rejuvenation procedures such as upper eyelid surgery, brow lift, and midface lift for more comprehensive results.
