Breast lift surgery incision techniques

When people come to our San Antonio plastic surgery center, they know they will receive totally customized surgical care. This is important when it comes to any kind of anti-aging or body contouring procedure. One size does not fit all.

It should come as no surprise, then, that there are different incision techniques for breast lift surgery. Let's cover the basics of the surgery and then consider the various surgical options.

About Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery is performed in order to improve the perkiness of breasts that droop or sag. This change in breast perkiness may be the result of the aging process, genetics, weight loss, pregnancy, or a combination of all these matters. The breast lift will involve removal of excess tissue to tighten and firm the bustline.

The nature and degree of drooping and sagging can vary a great deal from patient to patient. Because of this, there are different techniques for performing breast lift surgery.

Traditional Breast Lift Surgery Incisions

During a traditional breast lift surgery, an anchor-shaped combination of incisions is used. The three incisions are as follows:

  • A circular incision around the areola
  • A lateral incision along the underside of the breast (the crease where the bottom of the breast meets the chest)
  • A vertical incision that connects the two previous incisions

Through these incisions, excess tissue and skin can be removed in order to achieve optimal lifting.

Lollipop Breast Lift Incisions

When less tissue needs to be removed for breast lift surgery, sometimes a two-incision lollipop technique is used. This involves the following incisions:

  • A circular incision around the areola
  • A vertical incision from the bottom of the breast to the areola incision

Like the anchor incision method, the lollipop incision method is easy to picture.

Benelli Breast Lift Incisions

When a patient needs just a limited lift for their bustline, sometimes this can be achieved through just a single incision on the breasts. The Benelli breast lift surgery (aka the donus incision technique) involves only the circular incision around the areola. Through this incision all of the necessary tightening and adjustments can be achieved.

Crescent Breast Lift Incisions

When the lift required is very minor or very subtle, it's possible for the entire procedure to be performed using just a partial incision around the areola. During this crescent lift technique, surgeons are able to make subtle yet effective adjustments for lift results.

Combined Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation

For some patients, removing breast tissue may not be enough. In these cases, the lift surgery may also involve the placement of a breast implant. This combined breast lift and augmentation can improve the perkiness of the breasts while also boosting the size and shapeliness of the bustline.
