A Thigh Lift Can Give You Tighter, Toned Thighs
If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your legs, a thigh lift can remove and tighten the loose, wrinkled skin on your thighs. There are multiple surgical techniques available to achieve the younger, firmer look you desire. At San Antonio Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Peter Fisher, an expert in body contouring, can explain the approaches and options for a thigh lift to patients in San Antonio, TX.
What Is a Thigh Lift?
As we age, skin loses its elasticity, causing it to droop and sag. Even with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, it can be difficult to tone and firm thighs. A thigh lift, also called a thighplasty, is a body contouring procedure to minimize excess skin, fat, and tissue on the thighs, and sometimes the lower legs. This surgery is able to help patients achieve a smoother, more toned appearance.
Thigh lift surgery is ideal for patients who want to have tighter, leaner, and shapelier legs. The surgery can help patients fit better in clothes and provide a younger, fitter appearance. To ensure a safe and successful procedure, patients should not drink excessively or smoke, as these habits can limit your ability to heal. In addition, patients should have realistic expectations for results, be in good overall health, and be able to maintain their weight.
Dr. Fisher is a board certified plastic surgeon with a passion for body contouring. With his extensive experience, Dr. Fisher has enhanced surgical techniques to give patients outstanding aesthetic results while also focusing on the patients’ health. For thigh lifts, Dr. Fisher uses one of three different methods, depending on the desired results and amount of excess tissue to be addressed.
- Oblique thigh lift: This type of incision is placed along the bikini line, allowing Dr. Fisher to remove excess tissue and skin from the front, upper area of the thighs.
- Longitudinal incision: For patients who have large amounts of excess skin and fat tissue, Dr. Fisher may perform this technique, which involves an incision from the upper thigh down to the knee, or sometimes the ankle, to allow for a more comprehensive enhancement.
- Spiral thigh lift: This procedure is also known as a total thigh lift and is used for patients who want to reshape their upper thighs and buttocks. This incision starts below the buttocks and extends into the groin crease, allowing Dr. Fisher to treat a larger area.
Dr. Fisher can also perform liposuction in the treatment area for optimal results. Patients can also combine a thigh lift with other contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, or further liposuction in other areas of the body.
Many of our thigh lift patients report improved confidence and self-esteem that allow them to live life more freely.
We will provide thorough instructions for care and healing before and at your time of surgery. You will also be sent home with a compression garment to control swelling and support your incisions. Support garments are a vital part of recovery and should be worn for as long as directed.
Recovering from thigh lift surgery is a gradual process. However, you should expect at least two weeks of down time. After two to three weeks, you may return to work and carefully sit on your thighs, usually with pillows for proper support to avoid pressure on the incision sites. After about six to eight weeks, you may be able to resume regular exercise, but should wait until fully cleared by Dr. Fisher. The length for complete recovery depends on each patient's body, but you can expect to see full results in six months to a year.
