Mini Face Lift Candidates Seek Subtle Enhancement

Mini face lift candidates are typically in their 30s or 40s, with mild to moderate sagging or wrinkling around the jawline. Often, patients use this procedure to prevent or delay the need for more extensive plastic surgery.

With a mini face lift, Dr. Peter Fisher can lift and tighten the lower third of the face and upper neck to diminish signs of aging. It requires smaller incisions and less tissue removal than a full face lift, and the results are more subtle. Dr. Fisher is a board-certified surgeon and leader in his field who has been using this technique for 25 years to help patients experience a rejuvenated appearance and a dramatic boost in confidence. To determine if patients are mini face lift candidates, Dr. Fisher conducts in-depth consultations at his San Antonio, TX, practice.

Are You a Candidate?

To understand approximately what a mini face lift can do, place two fingers on each side of your jaw and push the skin straight up while looking at a mirror. If the skin does not bunch behind your ears, and most of your concerns are corrected, a mini face lift is likely to be appropriate for you.

In general, mini face lift candidates are younger patients who want to maintain a youthful appearance as opposed to extensive rejuvenation. However, candidacy has more to do with your anatomy than your age. Older patients may also be good candidates as long as they do not feel that their upper face or neck needs correction. The best candidates for a mini face lift tend to be men and women who:

  • Want to be proactive about their appearance and prevent signs of aging
  • Need more correction than facial fillers can accomplish
  • Require mild to moderate improvement of smiles lines and nasolabial folds
  • Have had a previous lift and need a touch-up

Candidates for mini face lift surgery should have realistic expectations and also be in good general health without any serious medical condition that could inhibit healing. Due to safety, Dr. Fisher does not operate on actively smoking patients. If you smoke, you must have completely stopped for three months in order to qualify.

Benefits and Limitations

Because a mini face lift is less invasive, it can be performed quicker and has a shorter recovery period than a full face lift. Other benefits of mini face lift include small incisions and a procedure that can be performed using only local anesthesia. As a minimally invasive procedure, however, a mini face lift cannot address drooping in the forehead or midface. If this is a concern, a full face lift may be more appropriate.

A full face lift or a neck lift is also more suitable if the skin on your neck is especially loose. Depending on your anatomy, a brow lift or eyelid surgery may be a better way to achieve your goals. Basically, a mini face lift is not capable of correcting a significant amount of sagging that involves large amounts of lax skin.
