Mini Face Lift Recovery Timeline
The recovery for a mini face lift is shorter than for a traditional face lift because the procedure is less invasive. However, you will still require some downtime and appropriate aftercare. Dr. Peter Fisher and his staff are committed to ensuring that your recovery is as comfortable as possible and that you achieve the best results. At San Antonio Surgery Center, we can discuss mini face lift recovery with patients at our San Antonio, TX, office.
Immediately Following Surgery
A mini face lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing you to go home the same day. You will need someone to drive you home from your procedure, and you may need extra help for daily activities the first couple days after treatment. Dr. Fisher may leave a drain for excess fluid, and you should clean it out once a day by following his instructions. As needed, you should take the prescribed medication for pain, but it is recommended that you avoid ibuprofen and aspirin.
Typically, you will return to see Dr. Fisher the day after facial surgery to ensure that the healing process is going well. After about a week, you will return to again to have any drains and sutures removed. Additional follow-up appointments will be scheduled, allowing us to monitor your recovery over the next few months.
Healing and Recovery
Recovery time from a mini face lift varies from patient to patient. Some patients are able to return to work in seven to 10 days. However, some patients may experience more significant side-effects and require several weeks to recover. Side effects can include swelling, redness, bruising, skin sensitivity, loss of sensation in the skin, and discomfort. These symptoms can last for several weeks. Most patients will also feel a tightening of the skin on their face as the area heals from the surgery.
Dr. Fisher takes pride in the excellent results that he obtains for his patients.
Returning to Normal Activity
Many patients are able to return to normal daily activities as soon as their sutures are removed. However, in the weeks following any facial surgery, you should refrain from any activities that can pull on your incisions, as this can cause excess and visible scarring. Intensive exercise regimens should not be resumed until Dr. Fisher has cleared you for strenuous physical activity.
For several months after your mini face lift surgery, you should avoid saunas and steam rooms. Smoking and drinking alcohol excessively can slow and decrease your body's ability to heal, so you should avoid these substances as much as possible. Dr. Fisher can also recommend skin care products that will help you to maintain the health of your skin.
You will begin to see results as swelling decreases, and can notice a significantly younger-looking appearance a couple weeks after surgery. Most patients are able to see the full benefits of treatment within three months to a year.
