Reduce Facial Wrinkles and Add Volume with Restylane®

Over the years, aging, environmental elements, and gravity can result in lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Restylane is a dermal filler used to add volume to the lips and cheeks or to smooth wrinkle lines on the brow and eyes for a more refreshed look. Dr. Peter Fisher and the staff at San Antonio Plastic Surgery Center in San Antonio, TX has over 15 years of experience addressing signs of aging and restoring a youthful appearance for patients. No matter what your needs, we can help you achieve the look you desire.

About Restylane

Restylane is comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the body. It is non-animal-based and biodegradable, and is effective for reducing lines and wrinkles while adding moisture and lubrication to the skin. Restylane is an excellent alternative to collagen, which is harvested from animal products.

What Can Restylane Address?

Restylane can be used on virtually any area of facial skin. Effective for adding volume, enhancing shape, and smoothing, this treatment can:

  • Smooth and reduce facial wrinkles
  • Provide lip enhancement
  • Add volume to the cheeks
  • Eliminate sagging under the eyes
  • Add volume to a recessive chin

Restylane Treatment Process

Before undergoing Restylane treatment, we recommend that you attend a consultation with Dr. Fisher. This will help him understand your cosmetic goals and determine if you are a candidate for the procedure. He will also ask you about medications you are currently taking to make sure there are no contraindications to treatment. Because aspirin and Vitamin E supplements can increase bleeding and bruising, we recommend that you discontinue use of these products prior to your procedure. Restylane does not require a preliminary skin test since it is derived from non-animal sources.

Typically, Restylane treatment can be completed in our office in 30 minutes or less, and patients can enjoy instant results.

Prior to receiving Restylane injections, local anesthesia may be administered to keep you comfortable during the treatment. The Restylane is then injected with an ultra-thin needle, which causes little to no discomfort. The hyaluronic acid molecules in the Restylane will draw in water, causing the underlying tissues to swell. This will fill outlines and wrinkles and immediately give your skin a fuller, smoother surface. Typically, Restylane treatment can be completed in our office in 30 minutes or less, and patients can enjoy instant results.

Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, it will be reabsorbed eventually, causing the effects to dissipate over time. Therefore, in order to maintain results, retreatments will be necessary approximately every eight to 12 months. Patients who receive multiple treatments will notice that the effects of each subsequent treatment last longer than the one before it. Therefore, your cosmetic results can be easily maintained by seeing your doctor on a regular basis.

What is Recovery Like?

Since Restylane treatment is minimally invasive, there is virtually no downtime required. Most patients can comfortably resume work and other normal activity the same day as their procedure. As a general rule, we recommend that patients do not flex the muscles in the area of treatment for approximately 24 hours after the procedure, as stretching the muscles can disturb the hyaluronic acid.
